The Community Risk Register is prepared for each county within the NWAS borders to satisfy the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and its associated statutory guidance, in particular Chapter 4 of Emergency Preparedness. It has been produced on behalf of all Category 1 Responders within those counties who are members of the Local Resilience Forum.

Through following the process outlined in Emergency Preparedness, the public can be reassured that a comprehensive assessment of hazards has been made. There is a separate process led by the local Constabulary, relating to the assessment and response to the threats from criminal activity and from terrorist incidents.

The definition of Likelihood, Impact and Risk Rating are detailed in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section. These assessments should be considered in the context of “Controls Currently in Place” column and it will be seen that various contingency plans have been identified as part of the response to the identified hazards. One of the key functions of Resilience Forum is to ensure there is adequate training and familiarisation of responders and that the plans have been regularly exercised.

The Community Risk Register came into effect on 14 November 2005. The Register is a living document and will be kept under review by each county’s Resilience Forum, links for which are printed below.
