North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust was established on 1 July 2006, following the merger of ambulance services in Greater Manchester, Cumbria, Mersey and Lancashire. This merger followed the announcement by Lord Warner, Health Minister to reduce the number of ambulance services to 12 across England. The North West is a significant area. It covers more than 5,500 sq miles and serves a population of almost seven million people. The Trust operates from 114 ambulance stations and employs around 4,500 staff across the following areas:
Cheshire and Merseyside
Cumbria and Lancashire
Greater Manchester
Taking Healthcare to the Patient: Transforming NHS Ambulance Services sets out our broad development plan for at least the next five years. The Trust aims to transform the ambulance service from a resuscitation, trauma and acute care organisation, into a mobile health organisation, which delivers a wider range of healthcare to the patients in the community.
This is a new website which will develop over time, and we are happy to receive any comments you may have. If you have any queries, please complete the feedback facility. Full contact details for the service can also be found in the Contact Us section.
