11 April 2014 - Ambulance Service Celebrates Success of Staff The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust's (NWAS) hidden gems were highlighted at the Trust's Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Awards Ceremony last week. The annual event celebrated Trust staff members who have 'gone that extra mile' for patients, their colleagues and the Service when carrying out their day to day jobs. Chairman's Special Commendations were also awarded. The ceremony, which took place at Ribby Hall Village in Lancashire on 10 April 2014, was funded by the generosity of sponsors; Virgin Media Business, MIS Emergency Systems Limited, Physio Control, Call Vision Technologies, Dell, Conduit Global and Truck Training UK Limited. Almost 200 staff members and guests attended the ceremony which was hosted by BBC Radio Lancashire's John Gillmore. This regional event focused on peer nominated awards, special commendations and contributions made by volunteers. A very high standard of nominations was received and the winners were as follows: Manager of the Year, Lesley Wells-Earp, Broughton Support Staff Member of the Year 2014, Alison Baxendale, Broughton Frontline Staff Member of the Year Paramedic Emergency Service 2014, Jessica Heardman, Morecambe Bay. Frontline Staff Member of the Year Patient Transport Service 2014, David Reid, Toxteth, Liverpool Frontline Staff Member of the Year Emergency Operations Centre 2014, David Marquis, Parkway, Manchester. Frontline Staff Member of the Year NWAS NHS 111 Service 2014, Phyllis Rodgers Middlebrook, Bolton. Volunteer of the Year Community First Responder 2014, Keith and Olwen Hansen, Irlam and Cadishead. Team of the Year 2014, Financial Planning Team Student Learner of the Year 2014, Frank Mills, South Liverpool Staff Suggestion Award 2014, Russell Bennett, Preston Special Commendations: Christopher White, Atherton, 11 ApriStuart Beattie, Warrington, Michaella Green, Broughton, 111 Implementation Team, Senior Paramedic Team, Greater Manchester Central Sector. 2014 CEO award for care and compassion in honour of Simon Williams, Mike Huddart and Andy Jackson. Special Commendations were given to all those involved in the Trust's #Team999 social media campaign. Collecting the awards were; Membership and Engagement Officer, Fiona Bateson, Sarah Smith, Assistant Director and #Team999 members, Ruth Pete Sutcliffe, Simon, Jack, Paul, Carol, Bob Williams, Trust Chief Executive said: "The evening was a great success and I was delighted to present the awards. Some of the actions of our staff are truly heroic and heart-warming and it really is a privilege to be leading an organisation which has so many dedicated and hard-working individuals."
