15 December 2015 - Patient Transport Service

NWAS Chief Executive, Bob Williams comments: “We are very pleased that the North West Ambulance Service has today been awarded the five year contract for patient transport services in Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.  However, this news is tinged with disappointment that the contract award has not been replicated in Cheshire.

“The Trust submitted a bid to provide patient transport services for each of the North West counties.

“Securing these contracts enable us to continue to build on and strengthen our programme of modernisation of this important service which will benefit patients, staff and our NHS colleagues.

“Whilst we were successful in four of the North West’s counties, demonstrating that there is confidence in the service we provide, our immediate focus now is on our staff in Cheshire and the impact on them. We will continue to ensure that we deliver a high level of service to patients until the new provider takes over.

“We will work closely with our trade unions, staff and the new provider to support them through this period and deliver a safe and smooth transition.”
