23 October 2015 - Commended for Life Saving Work Chain of Survival Co-ordinator at North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), Lauren Watson has been commended at the UK Heart Safe Awards 2015 as she received a special recognition award for her voluntary work with First Responders. After setting up a Community First Responder (CFR) team in Calthwaite, Cumbria, at the age of 19, encouraging five other people to join her, the team have gone on to provide over 10,000 hours of care to families and patients in the area. Lauren trains all her CFRs and five teams from surrounding areas on a monthly basis. The team have also had further success as they have been able to place five public access defibrillators in the area. Calthwaite First Responders were shortlisted in three categories of the awards including; First Responder Team of the Year, Emergency Services Team of the Year and Not for Profit Organisation of the Year. Lauren was picked out to receive her special recognition award (which can be anyone from any of the categories) for all of her fantastic work with Calthwaite First Responders and surrounding responders and teams.
