30 July 2015 - Pride 2015 The Liverpool Pride annual festival will be held on Saturday 1 August 2015 to campaign against homophobia and celebrate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community across the Mersey region. This year will mark the sixth anniversary for Liverpool Pride. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) in conjunction with Merseyside Police will be involved in the Liverpool Pride march through the city centre streets. Dominic Gaffney, NWAS LGBT Network Lead, commented: “This year’s theme is ‘Love is No Crime’and very aptly, whilst embracing the fun element of the festival, many of us will take time out to remember the death of the murdered young gay teenager Michael Causer, which heralded the start of the Pride events in Liverpool. It will be good to see NWAS staff expressing their support to LGBT initiatives in the community alongside representatives from the city’s NHS, universities and emergency services, amongst others.” NWAS will also be represented at the annual Spirit of Bolton event, which will be held for the eighth time this year. The festival, celebrates the cultural diversity of Bolton and its neighbouring areas, taking place in Victoria Square, Bolton Town Centre on Saturday 1 August 15 from 10.45am till 3.30pm. ‘Spirit of Bolton’ is about celebrating the many excellent partnership workings and the diversity of Bolton. Spirit of Bolton is a free of charge event and is for everyone to come along and enjoy the day. The event has three facets; displays from community groups, creating awareness and information giving; traditional cultural activities including henna, face painting, calligraphy and so on and thirdly music and dance which is always a fun and interactive way for communities to blend together and share the day. NWAS will also once again have representation at Manchester PRIDE, Ab Fab Weekend, and Mardi Gras taking place from 29 to 31 August 2015. The Ambulance Service will take part in the ‘Devotion' parade with an emergency ambulance vehicle along with an EXPO stand in the Lifestyle Exhibition area on Bloom Street on all three days over August bank holiday weekend.
