Chain of Survival NWAS' CQUIN funded Chain of Survival Partnership is working to develop and launch the new 'Cardiac Smart' initiative. Cardiac Smart will work to strengthen the message of the Chain of Survival by engaging with companies, The main message of the Chain of Survival is to specifically improve the outcome from out of hospital cardiac arrests across the North West. The Partnership is working to do this by creating an extended network, or blanket coverage, of public access Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and more individuals with training in basic life support. The Cardiac Smart award will give organisations and community groups the opportunity to train in basic life support and make their local environments more cardiac safe, and in return they will be awarded a Gold, Silver or Bronze recognition. Preparations are well underway for the launch of the Cardiac Smart Award, with the website due to be launched in November. From this point entrants will be able to apply and to start working toward their Bronze, Silver or Gold award.
