Estates Update

The Trust's review of its property portfolio continues with a number of stations being considered for either refurbishment, relocation or co-sharing with emergency service colleagues.

As mentioned in the Spring edition of this Brief, there were five stations under appraisal: Barnoldswick, Stretford, Moreton, Newton-Le-Willows and Formby.  In the months that have followed, a considerable amount of planning and discussion over the most cost effective and efficient usage of our estates portfolio and funding has resulted in the following developments for these five stations:

Barnoldswick -  Planning has determined that relocation of staff from the Brodgen View site into shared premises at the existing Barnoldswick Police Station will be more cost effective, as well as being more centrally located.  A planning application was issued in August 2012, and the move-in looks set to happen between December 2012 and January 2013.

Stretford - Staff will soon be moving into new station premises with Greater Manchester Police (GMP).  As part of the Service's Estates Review project, the Trust needed to decide whether the site could be refurbished or relocated.  As GMP is currently undertaking a refurbishment of their site half a mile away, this presented an opportunity for co-location.

Moreton - Remains in the planning stages.

Our Newton and Formby crews successfully moved into Newton Le Willows- and Merseyside- Community Fire Stations, respectively, on Monday 22 October.

The Trust will also shortly be issuing an information booklet about our Estates plans and inviting all stakeholders to an event, where all plans will be discussed in more detail.
