Greater Manchester Devolution

On Friday 18 December, an ambitious five-year plan for health and social care in Greater Manchester was welcomed by all 37 organisations involved in the devolution partnership including NWAS, the Department for Health and NHS England.  On Thursday 17 December it was confirmed that Greater Manchester is to receive £450m transformation funding from NHS England to help towards creating a sustainable and successful health and social care system by 2021.

Following discussions, we are pleased that NWAS is embedded in the NHS Provider Federation governance arrangements, and not under the direct supervision of the Mayor alongside the Police and Fire services.  We will issue a further specific briefing on the Greater Manchester Devolution arrangements once they have been signed off by the Manchester Partnership Board.

A final draft of the strategic plan: Taking charge of health and social care in Greater Manchester has been developed in preparation for the region taking full responsibility for its devolved £6bn health and social care budget from April 1 next year.
