Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service Update In December 2015, we confirmed that we had been successful in our bid to provide non-emergency patient transport services (NEPTS) to the people of Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. Unfortunately, the contract for Cheshire, Warrington and Wirral was not awarded to us, with the preferred provider being West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS). As part of the tendering process, we submitted a bid to provide NEPTS patient transport services for each of the North West counties for a new five year contract to take effect from the 1st July 2016. You will be aware that we lost the Greater Manchester contract to a private provider in 2013 so it is particularly gratifying to win back the delivery of patient transport in this area after three years, and we look forward to delivering improved standards of patient care to Greater Manchester patients. Work has now begun in preparation for the mobilisation of the four contracts awarded and for the decommissioning of the service in Cheshire, Wirral and Warrington and Wirral and we will have this work complete and ready for our services to go-live on the 1st July 2016. A communication and engagement strategy has been produced to outline the framework of how we will work with commissioners to engage with and inform stakeholders, patients and the public in the four counties. The new contracts include streamlined quality standards, particularly around the journey arrival and collection times, a revised process for applying the eligibility criteria to ensure equitable access to the service and the text reminder service to inform patients of when their transport is expected. In addition, new literature and guidance will be created to disseminate to NEPTS users, booking agents, GP’s and local Healthwatch.
