Patient Transport Service Tender Update

Earlier this year, NWAS Commissioners formally issued an invitation to tender for the North West non-emergency Patient Transport Services (PTS). This is the non-emergency arm of the service which takes patients to and from hospital and clinic appointments if they are unable to make the journey themselves.

NWAS is currently the main provider of these services throughout the North West and undertakes approximately two million patient journeys per year.

The Trust is very keen to retain this service and to continue transporting non-emergency patients and so submitted a bid by the deadline of 29 June.

The tender requests that potential bidders can submit individual bids for Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. Any organisation bidding for all five bids can submit a sixth bid for the provision of a Regional Service. NWAS has submitted six bids.

A key message that is fully endorsed at executive level is that we, as the incumbent provider of non-emergency PTS' are passionate about the service we provide to our patients. The senior management team has worked extremely hard to produce a quality bid. We have discussed the bidding process with our PTS staff and what this means to them and will continue to keep them and yourself informed of our progress.

The successful tender applicant will be notified in September 2012, and will be contracted to provide PTS services from April 2013.
