Improved Patient Transport Service (PTS)

After initial teething problems within the contact centre at the start of the new Patient Transport Service (PTS) contract, the PTS management team revised its staffing level and improved call answering performance.

Text service goes live - The Patient Reminder Message Service (PREMS), which offers advance and next patient journey notifications via text message, together with freephone telephone numbers, was launched in June. The latest mobile data systems are also soon to be installed on all PTS vehicles, more information on this will be included in future briefings.

PTS Engagement - NWAS, along with its commissioners, continue to engage with various North West NHS colleagues and hospitals, as well as Healthwatch organisations, OSCs and community groups to discuss the PTS contract and future working. Over recent weeks, attention has turned to GP Practices in the Cheshire area, with representatives from both the Trust and NHS Blackpool, attending Practice Managers' meetings.

PTS Marketing Campaign - Following the success of the Trust's recent awareness campaign, 'There's more to your ambulance service', which illustrated the variety of ways the service can help to make sure patients get the right care, a similar campaign with the focus on PTS is also being created.

Work will also be undertaken with other Healthcare Professionals. The aim of the project is to increase understanding and awareness of the role of PTS as well as enhancing its profile to increase awareness of patient mobilities and overall improve patient experience. The campaign is still at a very early stage and further information on the project will be included in future briefings.
