This is a special Mother’s Day message to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 1, Alison Sefton based in Chorley.
Alison joined #TeamNWAS 19 years ago and worked as part of our patient transport service before moving to urgent care and then becoming an EMT 1 in 2009. Alison is currently at university training to become a paramedic.
Alison has inspired her 19 year old daughter Bethany to follow in her footsteps and she became a Community First Responder (CFR) in January giving up her time to attend emergencies in her local area as part of the New Longton CFR Group.
With ambitions to become a paramedic herself, Bethany said: “When I first knew I wanted to become a paramedic, my mum encouraged me to volunteer which would give me an insight of what it’s like dealing with the public and responding to emergencies. I love what I do and knowing that I have cared for people and made a difference to their lives is very rewarding.
“Every time my mum left for work, I was always a little bit jealous because it was something I always wanted to do and I feel proud of what she does knowing that she save lives!”
