We talked to Jessica about how she is settling into the North West of England.
Hi Jessica, how are you settling into the North West of England?
I am settling well into Salford where I am based. This region has welcomed me with open arms, and I am grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in the local culture and community. I am dedicated to embracing my new surroundings and forging meaningful connections that will contribute to my personal and professional growth within this remarkable region.
How does it differ from your native country?
I have noticed some differences between the ambulance service here and in my native country. The healthcare system, protocols, and available resources vary, which has required me to adapt and familiarise myself with the local guidelines and practices. I appreciate the emphasis on teamwork and the integration of advanced technologies in patient care in the NHS. The diversity of patients and their specific healthcare needs has provided me with a valuable learning experience.
I feel incredibly grateful and enthusiastic about my new job. It is an honour to be part of such a reputable and dedicated team of healthcare professionals. The opportunity to serve as a paramedic and contribute to saving lives fills me with a sense of purpose and fulfilment. I am excited to make a positive impact on the community and work collaboratively with my colleagues to provide the best possible care.
How was your first shift?
It was both exhilarating and rewarding. It was a chance for me to put my skills and training into practice in a new environment. While there were some inevitable nerves, the support and guidance from my colleagues were invaluable. I successfully responded to emergency calls, provided medical assistance, and worked as part of a cohesive team. It was an incredible learning experience, and I am excited about the future shifts and the opportunity to grow as a paramedic.
What does it mean to you to be a paramedic?
Being a paramedic holds profound meaning to me. It means being entrusted with the responsibility to provide immediate medical care and support to those facing critical situations. It means being a beacon of hope and comfort during people’s most vulnerable moments. Being a paramedic means continuously enhancing my knowledge and skills, staying calm under pressure, and making important decisions that can save lives. It is a profession that requires compassion, resilience, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. We welcome Jessica and her colleagues into our green family and wish them good luck in their new careers.
