Vicky joined Team NWAS in 1992 as a control room assistant taking 999 calls. In the 30 years she has worked here, she has progressed to 111 Service Delivery Manager. She is responsible for the effective leadership and management, planning, performance delivery and clinical quality of all frontline call handling operations within the NWAS 111 service.
Getting to where she is today has not always been plain sailing. She said, “In my career, I have faced some obstacles. When I had my children, I had to cut my hours down to part-time to take care of them. This meant that I missed out on opportunities for promotion.”
She added, “Since I have been here I have seen a lot of change within the organisation. NWAS are more inclusive to all. The investment in developing staff and furthering their careers is great and I believe the change from a command and control structure to a more rounded inclusive structure is invaluable.”
When asked what advice she would give to a young woman about to start in a career like hers, she said, “Believe in your ability. You have great strengths. Be courageous and don’t let anything or anyone stop you!”
