Carolyn Wood, Director of Finance and Executive Sponsor of the NWAS Disability Network, has been highly commended in the Driving Positive Change for Disabled Staff category.
Carolyn was recognised for her leadership and commitment to improving the experience of disabled colleagues and those living with long-term health conditions.
She has been a strong advocate for making sure the voices and experiences of disabled staff are heard across the organisation. She has also helped champion inclusive language, keep disability equality and the Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES) on the agenda, and supported initiatives including the Sunflower Scheme for people with non-visible disabilities.
Fran Balon, Speaking Up and Clinical Project Support Officer and Co-Chair of the NWAS Disability Network, was named winner of the Tom Heywood Award.
The award was developed in memory of Tom Heywood, one of the founders of NADN, and is managed in partnership between NADN and the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE). It recognises an individual whose dedication, courage and commitment have made a lasting difference for disabled staff, patients and communities.
Fran is a strong advocate for inclusion, equality and accessibility. Through her work with the Disability Network and in her clinical support role, she has helped strengthen support for disabled colleagues, improve understanding of workplace adjustments and ensure disabled voices are heard.
She has also played an important role in growing the Disability Network and building greater awareness and support for disability inclusion across NWAS.
Congratulations Carolyn and Fran on this fantastic and well-deserved recognition!
