Below, you’ll learn why we take an assessment centre approach and what you can expect to be included.
- It’s a fair and robust process
We design our assessment centres to evaluate every successful applicant consistently against the same values and behaviours. This fairness underpins our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to demonstrate their qualities.
2. The process for non-leadership roles
Submit an application. Please begin by completing the online application form. In the supporting information section, please clearly describe your experiences.
Professional discussion. In a typical process, this would be the interview stage. However, we use professional discussions, which are two-way conversations. They help us better understand you as an individual and what skills, attributes, and experiences demonstrate your capabilities to undertake the role.
Receive feedback. After the discussion, you’ll get clear feedback on your strengths and areas for development, whether successful or not.
3. The process for leadership roles
Submit an application (as above)
Complete a situational judgement tool. This helps us understand more about you and how you make decisions in challenging situations.
Group simulation. A real-time activity based on the requirements of the role.
Professional discussion (as above)
Receive feedback (as above)
- Themes of the professional discussion
The professional discussion will focus on four themes:
Role capability. We will explore the specific skills and knowledge needed for the position, which gives us confidence that you can do the job you are applying for.
Leadership capability. This explores your ability to lead teams.
Inclusion capability. This is where we will look at how you foster an environment where every colleague and patient feels valued and heard.
Resilience/sustainability capability. We want to understand how you might respond to challenging times, personally and as a leader, to ensure long-term sustainability.
5. Reasonable adjustments
If you require extra time, assistive technology or any other support to demonstrate your abilities, let the lead person on the job advert know. We’re committed to making the process accessible to everyone.
