We are delighted to announce the appointment of Julia Mulligan as Chair of the Board of Directors.
Julia currently holds the roles of Chair and Senior Independent Director with a number of boards and authorities. She has worked extensively with diverse stakeholder groups and consistently represents the needs of underrepresented and vulnerable members of the public. Julia will bring a fresh perspective and invaluable insight into the organisation. She takes over from 1 July 2025 from Peter White, who has been Chair since 2014.
Incoming Chair, Julia Mulligan said, “I’m delighted to be joining the North West Ambulance Service and am looking forward to working with the team. In addition, I am keen to get out and about to listen to NHS partners, staff, the public and patients about what they value and need from their ambulance service. I would also like to thank Peter for his tremendous commitment and leadership – following in his footsteps will be a challenge, but one I am excited to take on.”
Our Board of Directors is looking forward to Julia joining the trust and to working with her over the coming months and years. Julia is a highly qualified and experienced board executive who shares the trust’s values and understands the importance of collaborative working and partnerships within the North West healthcare system.
NWAS Chief Executive Salman Desai said, “I would particularly like to thank Peter for his dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to the trust. Peter has played a key role in developing our ambulance service, strengthening and stabilising the Board, particularly during the Manchester Arena bombing, the further five years of investigation that followed, supporting the public inquiry and most recently the horrific Southport stabbings. The COVID-19 years were similarly a time of great pressure on the trust, which brought different challenges and a quickly changing picture.
“Peter recognised the emotional, mental, and physical toil that these harrowing experiences had on all staff, especially those taking calls and front-line responders who faced the brunt of the crises, and was instrumental in ensuring that we provided robust and accessible support systems to help staff navigate these difficult times. His visionary leadership has had a profound and lasting impact on our service’s success, and I am personally grateful for his support.”
