The first Medical Incident Advisor Workshop was organised by Medical Emergency Response Incident Team (MERIT) Manager Dr Craig Hooper and MERIT Support Coordinator Cheryl Mahon bringing together speakers from our trust, North West Air Ambulance, Great North Air Ambulance and BASICS doctors.

The event provided an opportunity to learn from the experience and expertise of partner organisations, explore their respective roles and responsibilities, and develop a greater understanding of how different services work together during critical incidents.

Speakers covered a range of specialist topics, including medical incident command, the role of air ambulances in major incidents, paediatric major incident planning and emergency medicine, providing valuable insights from across the sector.

Dr Craig Hooper says: “Through a series of presentations on specialist topics, speakers shared their knowledge and experience of incident response and coordination, highlighting the importance of effective communication, shared understanding and collaborative working when managing complex situations.

“By bringing services together to share learning and perspectives, the workshop aimed to strengthen understanding between organisations and support a coordinated approach to major incidents.”
