Roads can be dangerous, so you must be aware of your surroundings and careful when crossing a road. It doesn’t matter if it’s a busy road with lots of cars or a quiet street, always be alert and pay attention.

When crossing the road, remember:

• Find a safe place to cross (look for a zebra or pelican crossing)
• Stop before you get to the kerb
• Look and listen all around for traffic
• Let traffic pass before crossing
• Go straight across the road
• Never run as you might trip

Cycling

If you’re out on a bike ride, stay as safe as possible and remember:

• Always wear a helmet that fits well
• Ride in the same direction as traffic
• Avoid very busy roads
• Obey all the traffic signals
• Watch closely for cars that are turning, reversing or opening doors
• Watch out for pedestrians
• Follow the rules of the road
