Apprenticeships

We’re committed to the development of apprentices and we’re proud to have successfully registered with the Education Skills Funding Agency as an apprenticeship employer-provider.

Here at NWAS we aim to develop our workforce, and nurture and shape the talents of both new and existing staff. We are extremely proud of the apprenticeship opportunities that we are able to deliver, offering both in-house and external training.

Internally delivered apprenticeships

Our Education and Learning Team internally delivers an apprenticeship standard to our emergency medical technician 1 (EMT1) learners.

The apprenticeship standard has been developed in partnership across all ambulance services in the UK.

EMT1 staff undertake the Level 4 Diploma Associate Ambulance Practitioner apprenticeship. The apprenticeship consists of the Associate Ambulance Practitioner qualification and the Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving qualification.

We were inspected by Ofsted in 2019 and received a ‘Good Provider’ grade, with ‘Outstanding Provider’ in two key inspection areas.

Paramedic Science Degree apprenticeship

The BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science Degree apprenticeship is being delivered in partnership with universities and takes two years to complete.

This development opportunity is open to existing emergency medical technicians who hold the Level 4 Associate Ambulance Practitioner Diploma to enable them to become qualified paramedics.

As a result of this the highly respected profession will be open to staff to continue to work on the front line whilst gaining a full BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Practice.

Level 7 Advanced Clinical Practice apprenticeship

We offer this development opportunity to our existing senior clinicians, such as advanced paramedics and community specialist paramedics, to enable them to deliver advanced clinical care and support to patients and staff, as well as driving improvements across the trust.

Externally delivered apprenticeships

Existing and new employees can also undertake apprenticeships as part of their development.  Apprenticeship programme examples are:

  • ICT staff – undertaking Level 4 Network Engineer apprenticeships
  • Mechanics – undertaking Level 2 & Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance apprenticeships
  • Finance – undertaking Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeships
  • Support staff – undertaking Level 2 & Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeships
  • Environmental staff – undertaking Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeships

All current vacancies are advertised in the Join our team pages.
